Drainage Systems

Near-natural rain water resources management with TTE®

Surfaces and a French drainage systems with rain water treatment which can be driven over

The TTE® construction principle places much lower demands upon compaction of the substrate which usually leads to a high drainage performance of the surface. It is therefore, in contrast to conventional reinforcements capable of seepage, ideal for efficient rain water management. In this way decentralized drainage systems with wide area and near-normal surface seepage can be created which can be driven over and therefore do not require additional surfaces for that. Through integration of a living ground zone, area wide pre-treatment of polluted rainfall and precipitation runoffs is achieved by biological degradation processes. There are various different drainage solutions available according to the pollution loading and the construction principle as well as the seepage capability of the respective substrate.

TTE®-MultiDrainPLUS 2000

800 x 400 x 60 mm, ca. 8.6 kg/piece (ca. 27 kg/m2) Web thickness: 14 / 15 mm

Special features

  • sealing-free reinforcement without surface runoff
  • near-natural decentralised storage and seepage of rain water
  • surfaces and a French drainage system which can be driven over (up to 40 t.)
  • dewatering of neighbouring partially impermeable / impermeable surfaces without additional dewatering equipment and drain connection point
  • pre-treatment of polluted rain waters and flows of precipitation water off land over a minimum of a 25-30 cm thick living ground zone as well as for greened and also ungreened reinforcements

TTE® as a decentralized surface seepage system

Non-draining surface reinforcement

TTE® Construction Principle 1 and TTE® surfaces with slope formation are dimensioned as a surface seepage system according to DWA-A 138. Using a simple formula (seepage capability > rainfall intensity) one can demonstrate that the surface will remain run-off free. When the coefficient of permeability of the substrate is good (kf > 10-4 m/s), one can usually also feed in and drain off surface run-offs from impermeable surfaces. If the drainage performance is not sufficient for the quantities and intensities of rain water experienced one can use TTE® as a decentralised French drainage system.

TTE® as a decentralized French drainage system

low hydraulic feeding

The functional principle of the TTE® construction principles 2 + 3, apart from the flat rather than linear form and the lower porosity, is to be compared with a French drainage system. For this reason the dimensioning should be undertaken based on DWA-A 138 for French drains. This use offers a very efficient means of rain water management since it can also to be used in cases of poor coefficients of permeability (kf > 10-6 m/s) and usually also allows dewatering of neighbouring impermeable surfaces. Where there is higher hydraulic feeding we recommend the combination of TTE® + a French drain system, or the TTE® surface French drain..

TTE® + a French drain system

TTE® surface French drain

higher hydraulic feeding

This TTE® construction principle achieves a high absorption capacity of surface drain-offs for dewatering neighbouring partially-sealed / sealed surfaces. Through use of the load distributing TTE® covering layer a continuous load carrying living ground zone is built upon which takes on the function of a trough through its biolfiltration of pollutants and surface rain water retention. Below this there is a French drain layer with a large usable porosity for storage in which intermediate storage and time-delayed seepage of rain water takes place into the substrate. The French drain is dimensioned according to need based on DWA-A 138 for French drains.

Rain water treatment with TTE®

The TTE® construction principle allows building over a living soil layer and secures its ecological and, in particular, its biological functionality. Dependent on the intensity of loading, to do this the existing top soil is retained or improved upon using structural component materials and soil additives.

While taking account of the requirements according to DWA-A 138 and DWA-M 153, this living soil passage achieves a near-natural and near-normal surface pre-treatment of polluted precipitation runoffs. It is therefore not necessary to obtain DIBT approval for the TTE® construction principle. Using TTE® paving stones near-natural rain water treatment is also made possible for the first time for paved surfaces capable of seepage.
